The Fastest Geek 2006 competition, the country’s first and only event that challenges students to build a working desktop computer in record time, is set to kick off its tour this October.
Students are expected to take up the challenge, using just a screwdriver and their wits to assemble a perfectly running PC from a stack of parts. Contestants will be given a maximum of thirty minutes to put the PC together. However, it is more likely that most should be finished in less than half that alloted time.
ECS will be showcasing their latest generation motherboards such as the P4M800PRO-M based on Socket 775 from Intel and the NFORCE4M-A and RS485M-M which are both based on Socket AM2 from AMD.
The contest begins on October 16, at the Engineering Theater of the University of the Philippines at Diliman. The next legs will be held at the Mapua Institute of Technology (October 18), Ateneo de Manila University (October 23), De La Salle University Manila (October 25), Informatics Libis Eastwood (October 27), AMA Computer College Makati (October 30), S.T.I. Makati (November 6), University of Sto. Tomas (November 8), Adamson University (November 10), Don Bosco Mandaluyong (November 13) and University of the Philippines (November 15). The finals will be held at SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City on November 19, 2006.
